If you’ve ever been a fan of a franchise (and if you’re reading this, I’m sure you have), you surely appreciate consistency within that franchise. When writers introduce plot holes and errors into an otherwise perfect continuity, fans get understandably frustrated and upset.

When writing Super Dungeon: The King’s Summons, I always had the fans at the back of my mind. I spent hours researching and re-researching the world, poring over single paragraphs of lore to make sure I wasn’t missing any crucial details. After all, if I made one mistake, like claiming Amethyst was the oldest princess, I’m sure I would have, at best, annoyed and, at worst, disappointed Super Dungeon Explore fans.

For all of the books I’d written before The King’s Summons, I was in control of the world and characters. Every idea I’d ever put to paper was an original thought from my own head. But during this project, I got to learn about and fall in love with all the wonderful aspects of the wider world of Crystalia. I took great joy in verifying as many details as possible to make sure I didn’t disappoint a single Super Dungeon scholar. Before, in my personal works, I would always hesitate in my world-building process, wondering which details would or wouldn’t make my readers happy. During the writing of Super Dungeon, I knew that Super Dungeon fans were already happy with the world. All I had to do to keep them happy was stay as true to the world as possible.

Even while adhering to the pre-established world-building of Super Dungeon, I was grateful for the chance to expand upon some of the less detailed tidbits of lore already out there. I enjoyed exploring the actions and motivations of the main villain. I put some of my own personality into Princess Sapphire. Blaze continued to surprise me. And, in turn, I hope readers enjoyed learning more about Ember Mages, Foruk’s Falls, and Crook-Eye Orcs.

My life has changed a lot since I first started the story development for the entire Super Dungeon series four years ago. I’ve gotten married, I’ve changed jobs, and I’ve written several books. But no book of mine was written with more love than this one. Love for the franchise, love for the fans, and love for all the wonderful people who spent time developing Super Dungeon and its world and lore. To Deke, Adam, Wendy, David, Dan, Christopher, Emma, and many others … thank you.
